Cricut has released a new EasyPress called EasyPress 2. So what is the difference from the EasyPress Sky version and the new EasyPress 2 Raspberry version? Let's take a look at them both and compare.
Starting from the packaging, the EasyPress 2 doesn't look all that different except for the color change. The original EasyPress and the new EasyPress 2 both work well with the EasyPress mat, which is sold separately.
Taking the new EasyPress 2 out of the box, we start to see some differences. If we look to the heat tray that the machines sit in, we can see the EasyPress 2 on the right is raised up more from the surface it is sitting on. The design of the tray has changed as well. This might have something to do with the higher heat of the EasyPress 2. The original EasyPress could heat up to 350 degrees while the EasyPress 2 heats up to 400 degrees and does it faster.
If you look closely at the buttons on the two machines, you will see there isn't much difference. This is great because there isn't something new to learn when you upgrade from the EasyPress to the EasyPress 2. Looking real close, you will see the two buttons on the left side have changed from text on the EasyPress to icons on the EasyPress 2. The function of these two buttons from machine to machine is exactly the same.
Turning the machines around to the wire input you will notice on the EasyPress 2 there is a USB port. This port is going to be used for future updates. The original EasyPress doesn't have this ability. Note that the EasyPress 2 doesn't come with the USB cord for the upgrade, I guess Cricut assumes we all have a USB cord already.
This photo is showing a close-up of the USB port.
The EasyPress 2 states it comes with an advanced heat plate design with a ceramic coated surface. It heats up faster and heats completely and evenly from edge to edge of the heating plate surface.
Another huge difference is that the EasyPress 2 comes in three different sizes. You can decide between 6x7, 9x9, or 12x10 inches. The original EasyPress came only in the 9x9 inch size. I chose the 9x9 EasyPress 2 for a side by side comparison. To me, the 6x7 size while good for small projects would take more time to use on larger projects. The 12x10 size seems a bit large to store and house on my work table. The 9x9 size seemed perfect to me since I was already used to working with this size of EasyPress. (This is starting to sound a bit like the Goldilocks and the Three Bears)
