Fiber Acorn Craft

I loved the idea of this fall craft idea pairing different fibers with acorns. It's perfect because it uses nature to craft with. One thing you do have to take care of is preparing the acorns for crafting. Because acorns are from nature, they can attract bugs. To make sure you kill them, you need to bake the acorns.

  • acorns
  • paper towel
  • oven and aluminum foil or baking tray
  • yarn of choice
  • white glue
  • paint brush
  • scissors

Begin by wiping the acorns with a wet paper towel to remove dirt and any mold. If they acorn is cracked or has a bug hole, discard it. The others are ready to be baked once cleaned. I found different bake times on the internet. I used a toaster oven and baked the acorns for 10 minutes at 450 degrees. They actually got darker and it smelled like I burnt fall so I am sure they are well done.

Begin by choosing your fibers in colors that relate to each other and your decor.

Using white glue, generously coat an acorn. I used glue directly on the acorn and then used a paintbrush to spread it around. You may need to reapply. Wrap the acorn with your choice of yarn. This isn't as easy as it sounds. Take your time, make sure the wrapping doesn't get too tight or it will not stay in place. Take extra care and a bit more glue at the end point. I found the paintbrush's brush as well as the other end helped place the glue and yarn around the end. Allow the glue to dry overnight. Now they are ready for you to use in your fall decor.
