Spritz Cookie Recipe

I was searching for the best spritz cookie recipe and the recipe below came up from Land o'Lakes. I thought I can't go wrong with Land o'Lakes; boy was I wrong. They tasted awful. After the first batch, we added about 1/2 cup of sugar and that made all the difference.

We used a Wilton Comfort Grip Cookie Press, bought it at the Wilton tent sale last summer. There are fancier and even electronic cookie presses but this version worked great, easy to use, even my 8 year old could do it - actually loved using it.

Cookie

1 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar  (we needed to add another 1/2 cup of sugar)
1 teaspoon almond flavoring*
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Decoration

Food color, if desired (we used green)
Decorator sugar - if desired - we omitted

Heat oven to 400°F.

Combine butter, sugar, egg and extract in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed. Divide and tint dough, if desired. If dough is too soft, chill for easier handling.

Fit cookie press with desired template. Fill with dough. Press dough into desired shapes 1 inch apart onto un-greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with decorator sugar. Bake 8-14 minutes or until edges of cookies are very lightly browned. .
