When the holidays are hectic, bringing a hostess gift isn't always easy. This quick and easy repackaging idea is a semi-homemade craft. I crafted the container and filled it with Chocolate Wavy Lay's.
This personalized gift lets the recipient know I cared enough to make them something but I didn't have to bake, cook, or follow a recipe to do so.
This year we are heading to my sister's house for Thanksgiving. We typically pitch in but in all honesty, she does most of the work. I am going to bring her this little hostess gift treat because she loves chocolate. Salty and sweet go great together and you can get both in one treat when you buy Chocolate Wavy Lay's.
I first looked in the chip section of our local Target store. Then I looked in the chocolate section. I found Chocolate Wavy Lay's in the holiday section of the store. As you can see, they were in the process of stocking this section. These Chocolate Wavy Lay's will be available in Target stores beginning 10/30 and are available in three flavors (Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate with Almonds). I bought all three.
To make your own Hostess Gift Container
Materials:
- Small canning jar
- Silver tinsel string
- Mod Podge
- Scrap book paper in silver and gray
- Scissors
- Chocolate Wavy Lay's
Instructions:
Most items used were found at Target making this project a one stop shop for creating.
I cut the paper to fit the front and back of the glass jar.
Using the Mod Podge, I covered the glass jar, and placed the cut paper.
Next cover the paper with Mod Podge.
I used my finger to apply the Mod Podge.
Be sure to smooth the edges. You can use a damp cloth or tissue to remove the excess glue.
Trace around the lid on the back side of the paper. Using scissors cut INSIDE the mark.
I followed the same process for the lid. Mod Podge the lid.
Cover the top of the paper with Mod Podge paying attention to the edges.
Fill the jar with the Chocolate Wavy Lay's chips of your flavor choice. I used Milk Chocolate.
You may need to break the larger pieces to fit.
Or just eat them as I did, you know the saying "you can't eat just one" and I couldn't either!
Finally, wrap the tinsel ribbon around the jar twice and tie a bow.
Optional:
- Add a gift tag.
- Write on the side or top of the jar.
- Use a heat gun to speed the drying process.
- While this idea works great for a hostess gift, you can personalize your gift by changing the colors or adding additional decorating.
