If you are familiar with a yo-yo it is the same basic concept for a Kendama. The Kendama is a handmade wooden toy. The one I received for review was beautifully made from Bamboo Wood and could easily be a coffee table conversation piece. My daughters (9 and 12) were intrigued. Giving it a try we could easily see the fun and challenge presented. I also have to mention my concern for safety since you are basically throwing around a wooden ball attached to a string. If you miss making connection with the Kendama you are in harms way of being hit by the wooden ball - which did happen, and it kind of hurts. Did it stop them from trying it? No. They continued on and actually made contact.
There is definitely a learning curve with the use of a Kendama. Want to see the potential for these toys? Take a look at this video.
