When you welcome guests into your home, you want them to be comfortable for the duration of their stay. Crafting a guest space that echoes a luxurious hotel room is the best way to create a welcoming environment for guests. You may think that upgrading your guest room is an expensive project, but it doesn't have to be. With some DIY expertise and a few new items, you'll easily transform your guest room.
Give Them a Welcome Basket

Fill a basket with things that will make your guests feel right at home. Start with toiletries like travel-sized shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant for guests who forgot something at home. Upgrade to a lint roller and a stain stick in case they have wardrobe issues. Add a comb and a few hair ties or clips, and slip in an extra washcloth or some baby wipes, too. Finally, don't forget the snacks. Include a few healthy snacks like protein bars and fruit, plus a water bottle.
Make a DIY Charging Station
On the bedside table or atop the dresser, create a little charging station for devices. Centsational Girl has a great tutorial on making a charging station out of a cute box. Get more ideas by checking out Remodelaholic's list of 25 DIY charging station ideas. Pick your favorite, and adapt it to match the decor in your guest room. Take it to the next level by printing out the Wi-Fi password and placing it somewhere visible on or near the charging station.
Improve the Indoor Air Quality
The amenities you provide won't make up for your guests having an allergy flare-up or developing a serious case of the sniffles. Change your HVAC filter before guests arrive so the air circulating through your home is extra clean. Think about adding an air purifier or dehumidifier to your HVAC system so your guests will never have to worry about inhaling allergens. Leave a little bottle of homemade room spray, too, so they can add a clean scent whenever they need a breath of fresh air.
Create a Suitcase Stand

Always leave space in the dresser and hangers in the closet so your guests can unpack. Create a suitcase stand by buying or making a small padded bench, too. Not all guests like unpacking, so make it easy for them to live out of their suitcases if they prefer. Even if they do unpack, the suitcase stand is a great spot for them to put other stuff, like towels or tomorrow's outfit. Make sure the bench has space underneath for easy suitcase storage and access.
To make your guest room comfortable, think about what would make a trip away from home easier for you. Look around your own bedroom for ideas. You can always call your guests ahead of time and find out what kind of snacks they like or if they'd like anything special in their room when they arrive. These ideas are simple and easy to implement, but they make a guest's experience so much better.
