Birds in Flight Craft

Just in time for Spring, the birds return to our area in the Midwest. In honor of their return, craft these elegant paper birds. The birds are easy to make and are really beautiful when you hang a few together in a mobile type arrangement.

Materials:

  • scissors
  • cardstock paper
  • beads
  • string
  • needle
  • personal cutting machine (Cricut - optional)
  • Glue dots

Instructions:

You can cut these birds out on a personal cutting machine using this free SVG file, or print out the PDF file and cut out the birds by hand. Either way will work. The paper I used is basic office supply card stock paper 8.5 x 11 and I used four sheets. In either file you will cut along the black lines and fold (set to score) along the red lines.

Apply the glue dots to the inside of the body

Cut a long length of string, and thread the needle. Go through a bead a few times to secure the bead.

Stitch through the body of the bird. The image above shows the placement
for the needle, so the bird will balance. Pull the thread all the way through until the bird sits on the bead. Add a dot of Glue Dots to hold the string in place. You can add more than one bird to a string.
